Best Matcha In Paris

Move over coffee, there is a new morning ritual taking the spotlight. In recent years, people have been slowly swapping their coffee for a less-caffeinated, more-antioxidant rich drink to start their morning. Originating in Japan, matcha is essentially green tea on steroids. Instead of steeping green tea leaves, the leaves are finely ground and then whisked with hot water and typically blended with frothed milk.

If you have been steered away from matcha from a low-quality, grass-like introduction below are matcha cafes that highlight the delicate beauty of a well-made matcha latte! Whether you are a matcha fan, or hoping to broaden your horizons- these cafes will fulfill all of your desires.

Onoul Coffee Shop, 8 Rue Gramme 75015

This cafe is unlike any 0ther boutique cafe in Paris. The attention to detail is impressive in this small, family-owned cafe. Tucked away in the 15th, this cozy cafe is filled with warm lighting, fresh flowers, specialty lattes, lunch boxes, and scones baked to perfection. With a Korean flair, this cafe brings nuanced character and charm along with the creamiest matcha in the city. Along with their drinks and snacks, they have specialty Korean products you can browse while you wait for your drink. If you’re craving a sweet treat, try their freshly baked sesame and matcha loafs which is the perfect breakfast on the go!

Kiji, 5 Rue Gaillon 75002

This brand new coffee shop is marked by it’s traditional Japanese tatami floor seating upstairs, high quality ceremonial grade matcha, and an unbelievably tasty brownie cookie (brookie) that is the perfect accompaniment to a creamy latte! From the natural lighting flooding through the windows to the unique pottery collection, this place transports you into an atmosphere you won’t want to leave. This shop has extensive seating, so bring your friends along with you for a matcha date.

Umami Matcha Cafe, 22 Rue Beranger 75003

This cool spot is ideal for both the matcha enthusiast and matcha virgin, as this cafe appeals to all types of different tastes. Whether you want an umami, earthy matcha or a more milky, sweet latte they have a wide selection of creations to choose from. The magic doesn’t stop there, they have a mouth-watering selection of matcha flavored desserts, our favorite being the matcha tiramisu, and speciality Japanese products. As an extra sweet touch, they have the cutest animal latte art ever!

Kodama Tiquetonne, 30 Rue Tiquetonne 75002

This spot is a boutique tea shop and tea bar all in one! With paper cranes hanging from the ceiling to cloud light fixtures, this tea shop is full of creativity. The two specialties that have a cult following are their matcha latte and their chai latte, both rich with flavor and quality. There is limited seating, which makes this place feel private and calm. If you are looking for a peaceful space to sip some matcha and perhaps find a new tea for home, this spot is for you!

Seamer, 37 Rue Saint-Georges 75009

This brand new cafe is an aesthetic dream. This maroon and cream colored cafe with an elevated sitting area creates the perfect setting to lounge and relax with creamy, sweet matcha. From the stunning light fixture radiating warm lighting, to the floor to ceiling windows allowing sunlight to stream through- this cafe is pure perfection. Along with several different lattes, they have a wide variety of pastries and cakes to choose from to complete the experience. This trendy, cute cafe is full of charm and great playlists.

Although this spot is not a matcha cafe, this famed patisserie has created a heavenly matcha croissant that cannot be overlooked! Sadaharu Aoki is a brilliant Japanese chef patissier who is well known for his innovation of French creations with a Japanese twist. He finds a way to intersect french precision with complex Japanese flavor profiles. With a cult following, his delicious treats have taken Paris by storm.
